TMI and its courses are approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS). This continuing approval confirms that the Institute and its programmes conform to the Indian flag state’s training requirements which in turn embody the requirements of the International Maritime Organization’s Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978 (as amended) the globally recognized benchmark for training of seafarers.
TMI Marine Enginerring and Nautical Science degree programmes are approved by the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore.
TMI graduates may, if they so desire, appear for MEO Class 5 / Class 3 (DO) Certificate of Competency at Singapore, after completing a short preparatory course at Singapore.
After a rigorous audit of the systems, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), Japan has recognised TMI as a certified institution under system of recognition and has decided to start applying it to the graduates after June 2014. This in effect means that TMI graduates get equivalence in Japanese maritime education system and will be preferred in Japanese flag vessels.
