The 16th edition of the All India Technical Seminar “Transtech 2023” was organized by Tolani Maritime Institute (TMI), Pune & Institute of Marine Engineers (India), Student Chapter, TMI, Pune in association with Institute of Marine Engineers (India), Pune Branch & The Institution of Engineers (India), Pune Local Centre from 16th (Thursday) to 18th (Saturday) March 2023, at TMI Campus.
The technical carnival of Tolani Maritime Institute “Transtech 2023” portraying this year’s theme, ‘Sustainable Transportation: Key to Atmanirbhar Bharat’, began on 16th March 2023 with the arrival of the chief guest, the President of the Institute of Marine Engineers (IMEI), Mr. Vijendra Kumar Jain. Followed by the lamp lighting ceremony and the Vandana of goddess Saraswati.
The TMI Principal, Dr. Sanjeet Kanungo shared his feelings in his welcome address and introduced Transtech 2023 as the official platform for the professionals of tomorrow from Maritime Training Institutes and Engineering Colleges across India to showcase their talent and churn out new ideas for the future of the maritime sector. This was followed by the address of Mr. Sanjeev Ogale, Chairman, Institute of Marine Engineers (I), Pune Branch and Mr. Abhishek Kumar, Faculty in Charge, Institute of Marine Engineers (I), Student Chapter, TMI Pune.
Mr. Anirudh Kumar, convenor for Transtech 2023, addressed the relevance of sustainable transportation and its benefits as he remarked how Transtech seeks to expose the students to such technical programs to generate a quest for knowledge and inspire them to achieve excellence in their professional careers.
The event was further graced by the various guest speakers; Mr. Manas Vaid, Head of Marine Claims in Treasury & Risk Management of A. P. Moller Maersk Group spoke on “Technological advancements in the area of marine insurance & claims”, Capt. D.C. Shekhar, Director, AlphaMERS Ltd presented his views about Innovation from mind to market.
The Chief Guest Mr. Vijendra Kumar Jain released ‘Transtech-2023 – Book of Proceedings & ‘Journal of Marine Science, Technology and Management’ followed by his Inaugural speech on “Emerging Technologies”.
The session was followed by two parallel Technical Paper presentations conducted in presence of the Judges Mr. Anand Thakoor, Mr. Anil Bhat, Mr. Ajit Shelar, Mr. Deepak Saranjame, Mr. Gaurav Kumar Gupta & Mr. Swapneil Tamhankar along with the session chairs Dr. N.D. Junnarkar and Dr. Sagar Mane Deshmukh from TMI. Wherein twelve papers were presented on various topics by the participants.
Day 2 of Transtech 2023 was full of enthusiasm and energy. The guest speakers of the day were Commodore Somen Banerjee and Mr. Siddharth R Mayur. The Guest Speaker, Commodore Somen Banerjee spoke on the topic of “Changing International Order and Disruption of Shipping Trade”. Guest speaker Mr. Siddharth R Mayur shared his knowledge about Renewable & Clean Energy Power Generation & Storage Technologies.
The session was followed by two parallel Technical Paper presentations chaired by Dr N.K. Joshi and Dr. Manoj Kumar Kar respectively. A total of eight papers were presented on various topics by the participants.
The event was followed by the much-awaited Marine Quiz. The quiz had multiple rounds, which were preceded by an elimination round. In the final four teams, Tolani Maritime Institute, Anglo-Eastern Maritime Academy, Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training and Samudra Institute of Maritime Studies competed with each other with their full potential, skill and knowledge but in the end, the winner of the Marine quiz was declared as Tolani Maritime Institute.
The final day of Transtech 23 was the valedictory function. The event began with the welcoming speech by Dr. Sanjeet Kanungo, Principal, TMI followed by the motivational address by the Guest speaker Mr. Prashant Gade and the Chief Guest Mr. Adesh Gokhale. The Guest speaker Mr. Prashant Gade, talked on “Die empty-handed” while the chief guest, Mr. Adesh Gokhale, spoke on “Smart Ideation and Innovation”.
Finally, the much-awaited Prize Distribution function was held in which all the winners were awarded certificates and Cash Prizes. The Transtech 2023 Theme Poster winners were Cdt. Darshan Patidar and Cdt. Akshay Havaler. The wonders of their graphics and photography skills were being aired on all three days as Cdt. Harsh Sharma and Cdt. Samarth Jogi won the Transtech Video Making Competition. The winners of the intelligence-testing Marine Quiz were Cdts. Gautam Saxena and Cdts. Akshay Havaler from Tolani Maritime Institute, followed by Cdts. Abdul Gaffar and Don Baby from Anglo Eastern Maritime Academy in second place and Cdts. Kumar Srivathsan and Dhanraj Deshpande from the Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training secured the third position. A total of 21 entries were registered for the Model-Making Competition. The winner of the Model Making Competition was Cdt. Bhavesh Kumar Sendh from Tolani Maritime Institute with his model on Cargo Hold Cleaning Robot. This was followed by models by other teams of TMI and Anglo Eastern Maritime Academy. Out of the 22 potential entries, the winner of the Poster Making Competition was Cdt. Devendraraj Chavan from IMU Vishakhapatnam for his poster on, “A Socio-Economic Solution for Inland Water Transportation”.
The technical paper presentation, being the highlight of the event, had its top three technical papers in the following order; the third place was secured by Cdts. Divyam Tiwari, Devesh Nimje, Deepayan Mukherjee from IMU, Kolkata for their paper titled, “Potential of Ammonia as a Marine Fuel”. The second place was taken by Cdt. Nirjhar Sarkar from U V Patel, College of Engineering for the paper titled, “Reduction of Carbon Footprints in Shipping Industry”. The winner of the paper presentation competition were Cdts. Mohit Shangari, Badrid Dona and Satwik Dixit from IMU, Vishakhapatnam for their paper titled, “Socio-Economic Analysis of Blue Fuel”.
