TRANSTECH ’20
All India Technical Seminar TRANSTECH ’20, the 13th edition, was organized by TMI, in association with the Institution of Engineers (India) Pune Local Centre and the Institute of Marine Engineers (India) Pune Branch on 6th and 7th March 2020.
TRANSTECH provides a platform to students from marine and non-marine institutes to present their technical papers and showcase their ideas as modals on the specified theme. The theme this year was “Challenges and Optimization in Transportation Technologies”.
Mr. Arun Kumar Gupta, Managing Director, Indian Ports Global Ltd was the Chief Guest on first day. He released the Book of Abstracts, CD of Transtech-2020 and the yearly Technical Bulletin of TMI. He delivered inaugural speech on ‘Risk Management with focus on cargo transportation by sea’.
Dr. Vishwas Udpikar, Director at “SCI-COM Software”, delivered a technical talk on 1st day on ‘Digital Communication for Search and Rescue Operations’.
Capt. Jitender Singh Kanwar, Managing Director, MOL Maritime (India) Pvt Ltd, was Chief Guest for the Valedictory Function on second day. He delivered a speech on “Career & Life at Sea”.
Dr Dineshsingh Thakur, Professor and Director, Centre for Training & Placement, PGC Chairman, Dept. of Mechanical Engg, Defense Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune delivered his key note address on ‘Application of drones in maritime industry’ on 2nd day.
Another technical talk was delivered on Mr. Neelkanth Marathe on ‘What is in the plate for mobility solutions in coming future’. He is Senior Deputy Director & Head, Power-train Engineering, Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), Pune.
23 technical papers were received from 8 institutes across India and 12 were selected. 16 models were displayed both days. A team of three judges selected deserving participants for the prizes which were sponsored by TMI and The Institute of Marine Engineers (India), Pune branch.

Technical Papers:
First prize sponsored by I. Mar. E. (I), Pune Branch won by V D Sharma, S Jodha and P Sirisha of SNAOE, IMU, Visakhapatnam for their technical paper titled ‘Wind aided propulsion in the form of rotor sails’.
Second prize sponsored by I. Mar. E. (I), Pune Branch won by A. Gupta, A. Bhatnagar and A. Mehta of TMI, Pune for their technical paper titled “Application of drones in maritime industry”.
Third prize sponsored by I. Mar. E. (I), Pune Branch won by J. Trivedi of CME, Pune for his technical paper titled “Waste heat recovery technologies in diesel engines for energy conservation”.
1st consolation prize was won by A R Arote, A U Gaikwad and Dr. P K Katti of DBATU, Lonere for their paper presentation on topic “Adaptive protection schemes for microgrid: a review”.
2nd consolation prize was won by T Gaikwad and M S Moudgal of TMI, Pune for their paper presentation on topic “Use of 3d printing technology in maritime industry”.
Best Technical Papers on each Sub-Theme were awarded too, as below:

Sub-Theme 2: J. Trivedi (CME, Pune) for his paper presentation on “Waste heat recovery technologies in diesel engines for energy conservation.”
Sub-Theme 4: V. Sharga and S. Waghmare (TMI, Pune) for their paper presentation on “Recent developments in IC engines”
Sub-Theme 5: A. Gupta, A. Bhatnagar and A. Mehta of TMI, Pune for their technical paper titled “Application of drones in maritime industry”.
Sub-Theme 7: Guruprasath, Kathiresan M, Kishore Kumar J (GEIMS, Lonavala) for their paper presentation on “Cyber security in shipping”.
Sub-Theme 8: S S Arude, A Ojha, S Prakash (SIMS, Lonavala) for their paper presentation on ‘Advancements in electrical, electronic and automation systems in transportation’.
No papers were received on sub-themes 3 and 6.

For model on “Automated oil skimming robot for marine applications” by Saurabh Bhausaheb Sable, Adesh G Satpute and Ranbir S Bhalla of TMI, Pune.
2nd Prize:
For model on “Portable compact fresh water generator” by Athrva Shailesh Pawanaskar, Shubham Mungse and Vinayak Shubham Bhite of TMI, Pune.
3rd Prize
For model on “Enhancement of crane safety-1” by Shirisha Bennabhaktula of AEMA, Karjat
Special Prizes:
For model “Detection of cracks in railway track” by Manthan Dabadgaonkar and Gaurav Patil of Vishwakarma University.
For model “Piezoelectric braking system” by Ujwal Gehlot, Tarun Singh, Fewan Leezer and Tanishk Goyal of TMI, Pune.
